MARGOT VII landed in Shanghai for Fashion Week 2024, for a week the brand's team was able to discover China and its traditions...

A city full of surprises

Shanghai is a fascinating city that perfectly embodies the meeting between the past and the future. This dynamic metropolis, often called the "Pearl of the Orient", is a cultural crossroads where age-old traditions and ultra-modern innovations blend. When visiting Shanghai, you can feel this unique fusion: the lively alleys of the old neighborhoods, such as those of the Tianzifang district, offer a striking contrast with the large commercial avenues where luxury brands shine. Day and night, the city vibrates to the rhythm of markets, festivals, and the lights that illuminate the banks of the Huangpu River.

Between Art and Culture

The Shanghai History Museum is a cultural treasure that immerses its visitors in the rich and fascinating history of this emblematic metropolis. Located in the heart of the city, this museum traces the evolution of Shanghai from its humble beginnings as a small fishing village to its current status as a financial and cosmopolitan hub. One of the most fascinating aspects of the museum is its presentation of Shanghai’s golden age in the early 20th century. Visitors can discover how the city transformed into an international port and trading hub under the influence of foreign concessions. This period of rapid modernization is beautifully illustrated through period photographs, everyday objects, and depictions of the fashion, architecture, and art of the time. We were also lucky enough to visit the Pudong Museum of Art, located in the futuristic Pudong district, this museum is a mecca for contemporary art in Shanghai. The Pudong Museum of Art is hosting a unique exhibition dedicated to Joseph Mallord William Turner, one of the greatest masters of British painting. Entitled "Lights and Landscapes", this retrospective brings together a remarkable selection of Turner's works, highlighting his fascinating exploration of the play of light, atmospheres and natural landscapes. The works presented, from prestigious collections, allow us to appreciate the evolution of Turner's style, from his early detailed watercolours to his increasingly abstract oils, where light becomes the main subject.

A unique gastronomy

Shanghai's gastronomy is also an adventure in itself. From the famous xiaolongbao (steamed dumplings) to the refined dishes of Michelin-starred restaurants, Shanghainese cuisine is a real delight for the taste buds. We enjoyed an evening to enjoy a good meal at the top of the Oriental Pearl Tower, which also offered us an unforgettable view of the city of Shanghai. During this stay, on the contrary, we were able to taste a traditional Chinese dish called xiao long bao made with crab, in order to warm us up during our visit to the traditional alleys of Shanghai.

To conclude, a visit to Shanghai is an unforgettable immersion in the beating heart of contemporary China. This trip allowed the designer to develop the artistic side of the brand and to bring her new inspirations in order to create her next collection…
